To all friends of hunting!

This is the story about two mates and our dream of travelling to Alaska to go bear- and moose hunting. Our aim is to experience animals in wild and undisturbed natural areas. This has been our dream for several years, and it is now about to come true. This homepage is about our way towards fulfilling our dream, besides giving you a story about the wilderness of Alaska.

Svein’s dream

At last we have reached what we have long awaited: Bear hunting in Alaska is going to be reality!
My dream of a trip to Alaska with its great nature and scenery started already when I was a kid. I am old enough to remember Sverre M Fjelstad’s TV-programs about nature and animals, and these programs made a lasting impression.
First of all it was the rivers, the long, flat, broad rapids, the enormous schools of salmon, not to mention the bear that helped himself to the salmon. I can still recall the quivers in my body by the thought of experiencing this from the riverbank.
Then there was the Alaska Yukon bull moose with antlers larger than imaginable, at least for a kid. I recall Sverre M Fjelstad telling about how they move in the terrain and that they may weigh up to 800 kg. (Dette kan du jo gjøre om til pounds hvis du vil, siden det er måleenheten brukt i Canada …) I remember from those days that we could see carcasses of moose of up to 250 kg on the farms nearby – but 800 kg was downright inconceivable.
Next on the screen were the bears – the grizzly bear and the brown bear – and especially the brown bear made a strong impression. I got so fascinated by its character; its human qualities represented by its soft, playful and caring ways with its bear cubs, but in the next moment the anger and rage, the strength and brutality that produced an everlasting impact on me.
I just have to go there, to see it, to smell it, to sense it.

Peter’s dream

It all started when I was 15 and saw a film about Alaska on TV. At the same time I experienced my first moose hunt. Since then I have dreamed of going to Alaska to hunt bear and moose. I have had this imagination of a seaplane leaving me by a lake in the wilderness, and then picking me up by another lake a few weeks later.
15 years ago I had a chat with my friend Svein about this big dream of mine. It turned out he shared the same dream. So during these last years we have both talked and dreamed about a hunting hike in Alaska.
Last winter we realised that we both would have the opportunity to go. Heaps of things have to work out - everything from family logistics to work, not to mention money. My children have grown old enough now to manage even if I’m away. My boss has the philosophy that you get the most out of employees when you let them extend their potential, even though private. And above all, my wife has encouraged me to realizing my dream by, among other things, giving me a book about the Alaskan Wilderness last Christmas. This made me even more eager! It all depends on money, though - but by putting in overtime for a year, I’ll probably make it (and hopefully my old car will, as well ;-))

Both of us want to experience as much as possible on a journey like this. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us, so planning is important.

- What will we be hunting for?
- In which areas will we be hunting?
- When can we leave?
- How do we get permission to hunt?
- Who offers the hunt we want?
- What equipment do we need?
- Hunting preparations
